Naturopathic
Medicine- prevention of disease and promotion of health!
I am
passionate about Naturopathic Medicine and the possibilities that it can
help you feel better and give you more balance in your life. I love my
career as a Naturopathic Doctor because it gives me the opportunity to pass
on the uniqueness of Naturopathic Medicine and what it has to offer to each
individual in their healthcare.
During my
undergraduate studies at the University
of Waterloo in Science, I
volunteered with a non-profit organization to provide health education in Guyana, South America.
It was there I realized that motivating people to look at all aspects of
their health was an inspiration for me and I decided to dedicate myself to
learning more about preventative health to pass on to others. After
completing the four year training at the Canadian College
of Naturopathic Medicine and passing the Licensing Examinations, I opened
my Naturopathic Practice with Dr. Patricia J. Wales ND at the Acadia
Wellness Centre.
One of the
magnificent characteristics of Naturopathic Medicine is the number of
therapies available to enhance the healing response. For example,
Acupuncture and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) can be a stand-alone
treatment or incorporated into a treatment plan with other therapies.
Combining the TCM concepts of Qi energy flow with dietary suggestions and
appropriate botanical (herbal) supplements or homeopathic drainage remedies
can provide a powerful treatment program Applying age-old hydrotherapy
techniques that can be done at home with herbal and nutritional support can
help to detox and increase immune function.
Many
conditions can respond to naturopathic care --
- women’s health issues
including pre-menstrual syndrome, period irregularities,
endometriosis, menopause, infertility
- gastrointestinal disorders
such as Chrohn’s, ulcerative colitis, gallbladder and liver
problems and irritable bowel syndrome.
- anxiety, insomnia and stress
related disorders
- sports injuries and healing
after surgery
- chronic diseases such as
multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and arthritis
- immune system conditions
such as frequent colds and flu, sinus & ear infections,
- allergies, asthma, eczema.
Naturopathic
Medicine considers the physical, emotional & spiritual aspects of your
health. It is about prevention of disease but, even more importantly,
naturopathic medicine focuses on the promotion of health.
By
combining naturopathic therapies, we can work with you to support and
enhance your innate healing process & the synergizing connection with
the mind and body. I invite you to work together to set your health and
lifestyle goals, improve your energy levels, and decrease the effects of
stress in your life.
